INTERNATIONAL WEEK OF SOLIDARITY WITH ANARCHIST PRISONERS
In the highly repressive local and global context, it is profoundly urgent that we deepen the fight against prison.
The current pandemic has left repeated what has been deepening for years and that is the violence constantly exercised inside the prisons, being the people deprived of their freedom for one of the populations most affected by the contingency. Likewise, in all the territories we have seen criminal states take advantage of the situation to strengthen their measures of social, political and military control, prioritizing as always capitalist interests before the lives of the people. It cannot be denied also that the majority have internalized within themselves the police attitudes that the installation of this supposed “new normality” has brought.
We know that the current reconfiguration of the system will only bring a sharpening of economic inequalities, and consequently, the states and the ruling political class will respond by increasing their strategies of repression and control in the face of the struggles of the people for dignity and life. Among these strategies will of course be the strengthening of prison infrastructure and society: as a denial of structural poverty; as a perpetuation of racist, sexist, xenophobic and patriarchal violence towards historically oppressed populations; as a threat against those who break the citizen’s mandate to behave and question the unjust reality.
From the Colombian region, we join the International Week in Solidarity with the anarchist comrades imprisoned in all the territories, recognizing and making visible their struggle and their dignity, which does not end in imprisonment but which crosses all the walls and remains active and constant. To all of them our love and complicity. We also salute the processes, collectives and individual comrades who actively support those who are imprisoned, and also those who constantly agitate against all the cages.
We call on comrades in the Colombian region to retake and promote the meetings, networks and actions necessary for an anti-prison and anarchist struggle. At the time we are sharing this communiqué, the Days of Indefinite Agitation for the Dignity of Persons Deprived of their Liberty by the Colombian state are also being held in parallel, so we invite you to follow, spread and actively support this initiative.
Let us also multiply the efforts to rethink our lives, relationships and communities without prisons or punitive institutions to resolve conflicts. Let us recognize the community experiences that cross Abya Yala and other disputed territories to learn what we can. Let us strengthen our networks of information exchange to collectively, autonomously and horizontally build other free worlds.
FREEDOM FOR ANARCHIST PRISONERS!
FREEDOM FOR POLITICAL PRISONERS AND PRISONERS OF THE SOCIAL WAR!
LET THE PRISONS AND THE SOCIETIES THAT NEED THEM BURN!
Territory dominated by the Colombian state
